French actress Vanessa Paradis says it was love at first sight for her when she met Hollywood star Johnny Depp, who at that time was dating supermodel Kate Moss.
The famously private stars have been together for 12-years now but they continue to shun the intrusion that comes from being Hollywood royalty.
Paradis, 37, who is famous in France as a musician and actress, has opened up about her life with 46-year-old actor in the latest issue of Harper's Bazaar magazine.
The actress says though their relationship began in 1998, they actually met four years earlier, when Depp was dating Moss. She describes their first meeting as a "coup de foudre", which translates as something like love at first sight.
Both actors were once known for their rebellious behaviour but Paradis denies reining Depp in."I didn't tame him - we tamed each other," she said about Depp. The couple has two children daughter Lily-Rose, 11, and son Jack, 8.
Paradis says though they mostly speak English together, Depp speaks very good French, and also plays a mean guitar. "He is a very special guy. He has so many talents. He is a wonderful father and does so many different things so well."
She says that the family enjoy a low-key existence. "Our jobs make us do extraordinary things, and we travel and see lots, but the rest of the time we're quiet. We don't go to many parties or do a lot of red carpet."
Paradis will next be seen in French film L'Arnacoeur (The Heartbreaker), a romantic comedy starring Andrew Lincoln (This Life and Love Actually).
